Men's Basketball Wins Season-Opener

The ninth-ranked Middlebury men's basketball team opened its season with a 63-60 win over Baruch at the UMass.-Dartmouth Tournament. The Panthers held their opponents to just .308 from the floor, holding a 51-39 advantage on the boards. Middlebury overcame poor free throw (14-24) and three-point shooting (1-13) to emerge with the win.

The tightly contested game was tied on 15 occasions, including 60-all with 26 seconds left on the clock. Middlebury, playing in their season opener, pulled away on a jumper with six seconds left by Jake Wolfin to take the 62-60 lead.

The Bearcats had a chance to tie the game on free throws with two seconds left, but could not connect as Middlebury finished off the victory with a free throw with less than one second remaining to pick up the win.

Andrew Locke led Middlebury with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds on 7 of 9 shooting. Ryan Sharry also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Nolan Thompson added 11 points. Wolfin finished with eight points and six assists, while Ryan Wholey had six points with seven boards.
