Middlebury Cruises Past Green Mountain As Brown Wins His 200th

The fourth-ranked Middlebury men’s basketball team improved to 22-1 overall with a 74-30 win over Green Mountain College (0-19) in Pepin Gym. Middlebury head coach Jeff Brown records his 200th victory at Middlebury, owning a career record of 200-149 in 14 seasons, and a 90-17 mark over the past four years. He has more wins at Middlebury than any other coach in the 94-year history of the men’s basketball program. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they host Connecticut College in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game at 1:00 p.m. The Eagles wrap-up their season at Johnson State on Saturday.

With Middlebury resting all of its starters, the Panthers jumped out to a 20-5 lead on 8 of 10 shooting from the floor. Winslow Hicks made his first four shots of the game, three of them coming from behind the arc for 11 points early on. The lead grew to as many as 17 three times, before Green Mountain went on a 6-0 spurt behind a three from Kenneth Williams and a three-point play from Peiton Woodall to make it a 29-18 game with 5:32 remaining. The Eagles came within nine before Middlebury closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 39-24 lead into the intermission.

Middlebury held Green Mountain to just 2 of 22 (.091) shooting from the floor in the second half, cruising to the 74-30 victory. The Panthers shot .509 from the floor as all 10 players who saw action in the game entered the scoring column.

Peter Lynch led the Panthers with a career-high 16 points on 7 of 8 shooting from the floor, grabbing four boards with three assists. Hicks finished with a career-best 13 points, while Albert Nascimento also recorded a career-high with 10 points. Jack Roberts earned a personal-best eight points and eight rebounds, to go along with three blocked shots. James Jensen finished with a career-high eight points, also earning a season-best eight boards. Williams led Green Mountain with 13 points.
