Previous School: St. George's
Hometown: Spokane, Wash.
On my first tour of Middlebury, I was stunned by the beauty of the buildings and the picturesque setting of the campus between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondack Mountains of New York. The first time I saw the athletic facilities, I was surprised that a small school would have such amazing facilities. It was obvious that the school greatly values athletics in addition to its strong academic reputation.
What is the one thing that makes Middlebury College a special place for you?
The facilities and the classroom experience have been great, but the people at Middlebury have had the greatest influence on my experience. I have been most impressed by the care that professors show toward their students and the willingness to interact with their students and get to know them. The relationships with fellow students and people involved with the college have made Middlebury a home to me rather than an institution.
What is your best memory as a player at Middlebury College?
My best memory was playing a home game against Colby in front of a packed house. It was a close game up to the middle of the second half until we went on a 10-0 run. The Colby coach had to call a time out and I will always remember walking back to the bench seeing a sea of cheering fans jumping up and down, flexing the bleachers beneath them. The crowd was so loud that I think I only heard two words in huddle during that timeout. It doesn’t get better than that.
What have you learned from your sport that you will use in your everyday life?
Beyond the hard work and dedication that I have learned from participating in a sport, the most important lesson for me has been the value of teamwork. I have played on many teams that were merely a collection of skilled players. However, our team has been more of a family than an athletic team, and from it I have learned that when you can work well with other people toward a common goal, in addition to having greater success, the experience becomes more meaningful and enjoyable.]]>
