Men's Hoops Pulls Away From Plattsburgh

Middlebury tied the school record for consecutive wins with 17, while setting a new school mark for wins to start a season as the Panthers topped Plattsburgh (6-10) 73-54 in a non-conference game played in Pepin Gym. Ryan Sharry led top-ranked Middlebury with 20 points and 13 rebounds, earning his 30th career double-double. The Panthers return to NESCAC play on Saturday when they host Williams at 4:00 p.m., while the Cardinals will host Oswego and Cortland on Friday and Saturday.
Middlebury trailed 4-2 early before going on a 10-0 run to take a 12-4 lead at the 11:53 mark. Ryan Sharry and Dylan Sinnickson each scored four during the early spurt. The lead grew to as many as 12, with the Panthers holding a 28-16 advantage with 5:02 remaining in the first half. The Cardinals came within six, before a late tip-in from Jack Roberts gave Middlebury a 32-24 lead at the intermission.
Plattsburgh cut the lead to five twice in the second half, with Middlebury slowly extending its advantage. Leading 54-45, the Panthers scored 16 of the game’s next 18 points over a 5:27 span, taking a 70-47 lead with 2:06 remaining.
Sharry added four blocks in the game, to go along with his 10-14 shooting from the floor. He is now shooting .686 on the season, averaging 21.7 points and 9.8 boards/game. Nolan Thompson scored 14 with eight boards in the win, Sinnickson added 10, while Jake Wolfin tied a career-high with a dozen assists.
Shavar Fields led Plattsburgh with 16 points, while John Perez added 12 with seven rebounds.
