March 13, 2012

Middlebury College men's basketball player Ryan Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) has been named a first-team NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Northeast selection for the second straight season. A second-team All-American last year, Sharry will look to repeat the honor when the All-Americans are announced early next week. He was also named the D3Hoops.com Northeast District Player of the Year. The senior is also a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy, a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va., to honor the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year. The award takes into account three vital parts: basketball ability, academic prowess and community service. The senior will also take part in the NABC College All-Star Game on Saturday, March 17th in Salem, Va.

Sharry led the NESCAC in scoring (18.8) and blocked shots (2.0), while ranking second in rebounding (10.3) and field goal percentage (.614) this season. His field goal percentage places him eighth nationally. Sharry had 16 double-doubles this season, giving him 39 in his four years as a Panther. He scored a career-high 41 points at Rensselaer on January 3rd, with a career-best 16 boards on February 4th vs. Colby.
