March 18, 2013
Middlebury College men’s basketball player Nolan Thompson (Akron, Ohio) has earned a spot on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District team. The senior was earlier this season named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year. He and his teammates are preparing for a trip to Salem, Virginia where they will play in the quarterfinals on Friday night.
Thompson, who was the fourth Panther in five years to be named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year, earned a spot on the NABC Northeast second-team. He has been a defensive stalwart throughout his four seasons at Middlebury and consistently shut down his opponent on the defensive side of the floor. He is third on the team with 12.6 points/game, while ranked second with 5.2 rebounds/contest. Thompson shoots 49.4% from the floor and became a 1,000-point scorer earlier this season. He netted a career-high 27 points in a 1/14/11 win over Tufts, while scoring 20 or more points three times this season. He scored 20 points in the NCAA win over Ithaca last weekend, knocking down a career-high six threes.
