Men's Golf Headed To NCAA's

May 4, 2011

The Middlebury College men’s golf team will makes its third NCAA Tournament appearance from May 10-13 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The Panthers earned the right after cruising to its fourth NESCAC Championship, capturing the title with a red-hot 292 on day two and a combined score of 594 over 36 holes. Leading by nine after one day of play, the Panthers added to their lead to come away with a convincing 19-stroke victory. Guilford College, the Greensboro Sports Commission and the NCAA will sponsor the event.

Middlebury last appeared in the tournament in 2009, making its inaugural appearance in 2007. In ’07, the Panthers opened with a 347 and then shaved 11 strokes off their score on the second day for a two-day total of 680. Cuts were made after day two, with Middlebury falling below the line and ending their season.  Two years ago, the Panthers earned a similar fate, taking 27 strokes off their day one score to finish with a 631, missing the cut.

Representing the team at the NCAA’s will be NESCAC Player of the Year, Brian Cady (Rye, N.Y.). The senior is a three-time All-NESCAC selection, winning player of the year honors this past fall after shooting a 68 on day two for a 142 at the NESCAC Fall Qualifier. Senior Jim Levins (Rutland, Vt.) is a three-time All-NESCAC performer, while sophomore Andrew Emerson (Pelham, N.Y.) was a second-team All-Conference choice and the league’s rookie of the year last season. Sophomore Williams Prince (New Canaan, Conn.), who was a second-team choice in the fall of ’09 and first-year player Max Alley (Albany, N.Y.) round out the NCAA Team.
