Cooper's OT Goal Lifts Middlebury Over Bowdoin

1/16/04 - Middlebury's Kevin Cooper scored with just 46 seconds left in overtime to lift #3 Middlebury over #8 Bowdoin in a top 10 match-up. Foote slid a pass across the crease where Cooper was waiting for the one-timer from the left face-off circle for the game winner.


Middlebury jumped out early as Eric LaFreniere scored from the left side on a rebound after a shot from Scott Ward at 1:37. Bowdoin had a great chance to even the game at the 18-minute mark, but Adam Mackie was unable to get off a shot as he broke in all alone shorthanded. The Polar Bears tied the game 3:52 into the second period as Andy Nelson scored with some nifty moves driving to the net. Middlebury answered at 7:30 as Adam Foote picked up a puck at center ice before skating in a wristing a shot past George Papachristopoulos. Bowdoin had another chance to answer at 17:30, but Patrick Nugent cleared a shot from Jon Landry that was trickling past Middlebury netminder Yen-I Chen. Bowdoin forced the game into overtime with just 3:49 remaining as Greg McConnell shot from the right wing deflected into the net off a Panther in the slot. Middlebury out shot Bowdoin 35-15 on the night. (box)
