January 4, 2004

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury's Kevin Cooper scored the game-winner on the power play 11:20 into the third period as the Panthers beat Hobart 3-1. Cooper tallied the goal on a rebound after a shot from the left point by Andrew Helming on the power play.

Middlebury took a 1-0 lead at the 7:39 mark of the first period with a power play goal from Patrick Nugent. Tim Graham made a nice cross-ice pass to Nugent on the left wing before he one-timed the shot into the net. The game would remain scoreless for the next 37:40 until Hobart got on the board at the 5:18 mark of the third period. Adam Scott wristed a shot into the net, past a screened Marc Scheuer, as he (Scott) was skating toward the left face-off circle. Cooper scored the game-winner at 11:20, while Jeff Smith added an empty-netter to seal the 3-1 win with 19 seconds remaining.

Scheuer made 16 saves on the night, while Adam Lavelle made 23 stops for the Statesmen. (box)
