February 12, 2005
2/12/05 - Middlebury came back from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 4-4 tie with Trinity. The tie, along with a Bowdoin loss today, clinches a tie for the top spot in the NESCAC standings for the Bantams with one weekend to play. The Bantams were ranked sixth in the latest national poll, while the Panthers were one spot behind in seventh. The game was played before a crowd of 2,450 at the Kenyon Arena, where Middlebury out shot Trinity 46-22 on the night.
Trinity took at 1-0 lead midway through the first period as Simon Dionne scored with a slapper from the right side. The Bantams made it a 2-0 game at 15:24 as Brendan Timmins scored on a rebound after a flurry in front.
At the 8:47 mark of the second period Bryan Crabtree scored from the slot after a feed from Joseph Ori. Mickey Gilchrist put the Panthers on the board with a five-on-three power play tally at 11:25 of the second period. Middlebury made it a one-goal game just 1:06 later as Brian Phinney's snapshot was tipped in by Gilchrist. The Panthers came all the way back at 17:04 as Jocko DeCarolis blasted a centering pass from Maldonado to tie the game at three. The Bantams had an answer 40 seconds later as a great pass from Greg Camarco found an open Ori, who converted the breakaway.
With just 2:58 remaining in regulation, Middlebury tied the game again, as Gilchrist earned the hat trick from the slot after a rebound. The Panthers out shot the Bantams 15-6 in the third period, but were only able to tie the game, forcing it into overtime.
