Men's Hockey Ties Team U.S.A.

1/2/05 - Middlebury and the USA Hockey Under 18 National Team battled to a 2-2 tie at the Middlebury College Holiday Classic. The game is consider an exhibition with the Panthers returning to NESCAC action next Friday and Saturday in the Kenyon Arena.

USA opened the scoring at 13:37 of the first period as Jack Johnson's shot from the left point deflected into the net off the back of a defender just outside the crease. The power play goal gave Team USA a 1-0 lead, which they doubled at the 10:34 mark of the second period. Ryan Stoa and Peter Mueller worked the puck for a two-on-one transition goal, as Mueller snapped a shot into the top left corner for the 2-0 lead. Middlebury got on the board at 17:32 as Tim Graham put home a rebound from the doorstep after a shot from the left point by Rob MacIntyre was saved.  The Panthers tied the game at 8:56 with a power play goal as Scott Bartlett scored from just outside the crease on a rebound.

Yen-I Chen made 28 saves in goal for Middlebury, while Jeff Frazee and Billy Blase combined to make 33 saves for Team USA. The Panthers were 1-10 on the power play, while Team USA went 1-9.
