Men's Hockey Cruises Past Wesleyan

Middlebury outshot Wesleyan 48-11 as the Panthers scored three second periods goal en route to a 5-2 win over the Cardinals in Kenyon Arena. Middlebury returns to action on Saturday when they host Trinity at 4:00 p.m., while Wesleyan visits Williams.

Middlebury took a 1-0 lead at the 2:23 mark as Chaz Svoboda made a quick pass behind the Wesleyan goaltender to an open Ken Suchoski on the far post. The lead doubled at 10:36 as Charlie Townsend took a feed from Bryan Curran before breaking in and scoring with a backhander. Wesleyan earned its first shot on goal at the 11:10 mark, and then broke through at 15:06 with a power play shot from the point by Henry Coxe. The Panthers ended the period with a 17-3 shots advantage.

Jamie McKenna made it a 3-1 contest at 11:05 of the second as he snapped a shot to the top right corner of the net after a pass from Martin Drolet. Just 2:57 later, Drolet tipped in a shot from Charlie Strauss to make it a 4-1 contest. Suchoski scored his second of the game and the third for the Panthers in a 4:14 span to give them a 5-1 lead after two.

Wesleyan's David Layne scored the game's final goal at 13:26 of the third to make it a 5-2 final.

John Yanchek made nine stops to earn the win for Middlebury. Tim Archiblad (40 minutes) made 30 saves in goal for Wesleyan, while Ryan Moses (20 minutes) made 13 stops.
