Men's Lacrosse To Host NCAA Quarterfinals

May 18, 2004

5/18/04 - Middlebury will host Stevens Institute in an NCAA quarterfinal men's lacrosse game on Wednesday, May 19th at 3:00 p.m. The winner will take on the victor of the Nazareth/Cortland game played on the same day. A Middlebury win would secure them a home date for the NCAA semifinals this Sunday.

Middlebury earned the right to play in the tournament with a 12-7 win over Wesleyan in the NESCAC Championship game. Last Sunday, the Panthers won their opening round NCAA Tournament game with a 14-5 victory over <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Geneseo State. Middlebury outscored Geneseo 8-1 in the second half as Mike Saraceni led the team with three goals on the afternoon.

The Panthers have appeared in five straight NCAA Championship games, winning the title in '00, '01 and '02. Middlebury has an overall tournament record of 20-4 (.833), boasting the highest winning percentage in tournament history of any team still competing in Division III. Middlebury will also be riding a 44-game winning streak on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The streak dates back to a loss to Division I Vermont on April 16th of 1997.
