Six Panthers Named All-NESCAC

5/13/04 - Six members of the Middlebury College men's lacrosse team were named to the All-NESCAC team today. Seniors Mike Saraceni (N. Syracuse, N.Y.), Eric Krieger (Princeton, N.J.) and John West (New Canaan, Conn.) were all named to the first-team, while seniors Charley Howe (Darien, Conn.), Greg Bastis (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and junior Ed Brown (Baltimore, Md.) were all second-team selections. The six players led the Panthers to their fourth consecutive NESCAC Championship and seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. Middlebury will host Geneseo in an NCAA Tournament game this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Saraceni is a first-team selection for the second straight season on attack. The senior is second in the league with 61 points this season, while leading the league with 2.33 assists/game. He has 26 goals and 35 assists entering this weekend's play.

Krieger is also a first-team choice for the second consecutive year. He is having another great season in net, leading the NESCAC with a 6.50 goals against average. The senior has played 831 of 906 minutes this season and has 133 saves.

West is the third of the three two-time All-NESCAC selections. Despite missing the last five games with an injury, West earned his spot on the team. A reigning first-team All-American, he leads a Middlebury defense that allows a conference-best 6.16 goals/game.

Howe, the Panther's leading goal-scorer, earns a spot as an attackman on the second-team. Howe has 33 goals on the season to go along with his 10 assists for 43 points on the year.

Bastis is a second-team All-Conference selection for the second straight year in the midfield. The senior captain has been coming on strong of late, owning 10 goals for 11 points on the season.

Brown earns second-team honors on the top defense in the league. He and West helped hold opponents under 10 goals for six straight games and 11 of 14 this season.
