Men's Lacrosse Clinches NESCAC

5/1/04 - (from Bates SID) - Greg Bastis scored three goals to lead the Middlebury men's lacrosse team, ranked fourth nationally, to a 14-6 win over Bates in a New England Small College Athletic Conference game on Campus Avenue Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers improved to 12-1, 8-1 NESCAC clinched the top spot in the NESCAC championship tournament and will host the semifinal and championship games next weekend on Youngman Field. Middlebury will face the lowest remaining seed following Sunday's first round contests on Saturday, May 8th.
Trailing 4-1 early in the second quarter, Bates responded with a pair of goals to cut the lead to one. The Panthers, however, scored twice before halftime and added a pair of goals early in the third quarter to take an 8-3 lead, and Bates couldn't trim the lead to less than four.
Mark Foster and Travis Meyer each added a pair of goals for Middlebury, while Dave Leach, Jonathan Sisto and Andrew Giordano each tallied a goal and an assist. Eric Krieger made 13 saves, including five in the first quarter, to get the win for Middlebury. (box)
