Men's Lax Wins At RPI

Jim Cabrera tallied five goals, including two in the first half to lead Middlebury past Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in non-conference men's lacrosse action. With the victory, the Panthers improve to 7-3 on the season. The Red Hawks fall to 5-7 overall.

Middlebury got goals from four different scorers to build a 4-0 lead through the first period of play. RPI got on the board at 11:05 of the second period, but Middlebury would add another tally with less than a minute remaining to take a 6-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Panthers came out firing, scoring six consecutive goals, including three from Cabrera to make it 12-1 with just over five minutes to play in the frame. The Red Hawks scored a pair late to make it a 12-3 game after three.

The teams traded goals in the fourth quarter on markers from Panthers Tom Petty and Adam LoGiudice, but Rensselaer could not overcome the deficit, falling 13-4.

In addition to Cabrera, the Panthers got three goals and three assists from Henry Sheehan. J.P. Coviello added two goals while Aaron Herter added a goal and an assist. Alex Palmisano earned the victory for Middlebury, making six saves in 39:41 minutes and was relieved by Pete Britt who posted five saves in 20:19.
