May 31, 2007
Middlebury College men's lacrosse player Peter Mellen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) has been named a Scholar All-American by the USILA. The senior helped lead the Panthers to their seventh straight NESCAC Championship, as well as their 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. In order to be eligible for the team, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and been named a North/South all-star or an All-American. Mellen was invited to play in the north/south game but was unable to due to commencement.
Mellen, who was a two-time All-NESCAC selection as a specialist, handled 75 percent of the team's face-offs this season. The senior went 179-275, winning .653 of his attempts. He was also much more involved in the offense this season, scoring eight goals with 10 assists for 18 points in '07. Mellen had a season-high four assists in an April 7th win over Amherst, while winning 16 of 17 face-offs in a March 18th win over Connecticut College.
