May 29, 2007

Sophomore James Guay (North Scituate, R.I.) of the Middlebury College men's lacrosse team has earned third-team All-American honors. Senior Nick Bastis (Old Greenwich, Conn.), junior Jim Cabrera (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and sophomore Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) all earned honorable mention honors. The four players helped lead the Panthers to their seventh straight NESCAC Championship, as well as their 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Guay earns third-team honors as the leader of the Middlebury defense. The sophomore was second only to face-off man Peter Mellen with 84 ground balls this season. Guay earned first-team All-NESCAC honors earlier this spring, while helping the team to allow a mere 6.96 goals/game in '07. He scored twice this season, in the season-opener vs. Stevens and the season finale at Wesleyan.

Bastis was tied for third on the team in goals (26), while ranking second in assists (13) and points (39) this season. The senior earned second-team All-NESCAC honors, scoring a season-high four goals in a win over Bowdoin.

Cabrera paced the team with 30 goals and 41 points in '07, to go along with his 11 assists. He was also a second-team All-NESCAC choice, while scoring two or more goals 10 times this season.

Stone was a first-team All-NESCAC selection in his second season as a Panther. He was second on the team with 29 goals this season, including four man-up tallies. He finished the year third on the squad with 36 points.
