May 8, 2008

Three members of the Middlebury College men's lacrosse team were honored today when the NESCAC announced its all-league teams. Junior Mike Stone (Boston, Mass.) was named the NESCAC Player of the Year, while also earning a spot on the first team. Junior James Guay (North Scituate, R.I.) was named to the first-team, while senior Jim Cabrera (Old Greenwich, Conn.) earned second-team honors. The three are preparing to host an NCAA Tournament second-round match-up on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. vs. Bowdoin.

Stone has enjoyed another impressive season offensively for the Panthers. He leads the team with 27 goals in 14 games, to go along with his 19 assists and team-high 46 points in '08. Stone now has 56 goals in 32 games over his sophomore and junior seasons, including back-to-back five goals games earlier this season against Bowdoin and Washington & Lee. His 3.29 points/game place him third in the NESCAC.

Guay earns first-team All-NESCAC honors as the anchor of the Middlebury defense. The junior has played in all 14 games this season and has been a major factor in the Panthers' 7.68 goals against average. He leads the team with 79 ground balls on the year, including 163 over the past two seasons.

Cabrera earns All-NESCAC honors for the fourth consecutive season. The '05 NESCAC Rookie of the Year has 19 goals and six assists for 25 points in 13 games this season. Cabrera has been coming on strong as of late, with eight goals in his last three games, including four against Tufts in the regular season finale. He now has 128 goals and 35 assists for 163 career points at Middlebury.
