Men's Lacrosse To Host NCAA Game - Watch Live!

Middlebury will make its 11th consecutive and 12th overall appearance in the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament this weekend. The Panthers drew a first-round bye and will host Bowdoin, an 11-5 winner of Mt. Ida, on Saturday, May 10th at 1:00 p.m. Middlebury earned its way into the tournament with an at-large bid after falling 11-10 in overtime to Williams in the NESCAC semifinals.

The Panthers are 26-8 in NCAA play since they first qualified for the tourney in '96. Their .765 NCAA winning percentage is higher than any other team currently competing in Division III lacrosse. Middlebury has advanced to the NCAA title game in six of the last nine seasons, winning three straight NCAA crowns in '00, '01 and '02.

Middlebury opened the year with nine straight wins before suffering its first loss of the season, a 7-6 game to Trinity. The Panthers then ran off three more wins before falling in the NESCAC semi's. Middlebury has won some tight games this season, earning an 8-1 mark in NESCAC play. The Panthers won their games by an average of 2.65 goals, while both losses this season have come by one goal.

Middlebury ranked second in the NESCAC this season, scoring 10.36 goals/game, while the defense was fourth with a 7.68 GAA.

Leading the offense has been Mike Stone with 27 goals and 19 assists for 46 points on the year. His 3.29 goals/game are third among his NESCAC opponents. Pete Smith leads the team in assists with 24 (1.71/game, 4th in NESCAC), to go along with 13 goals for 37 points in '08. Jim Cabrera (19-6-25), Matt Ferrer (21-2-23), Tom Petty (19-4-23) and Skyler Hopkins (13-7-20) round out the leading scorers. Defenseman James Guay leads the team with 79 ground balls on the year, followed by face-off man Dave Campbell (135-259 - .531) with 74. In goal, Peter Britt has played all 851 minutes this season, sporting a 7.68 GAA (4th in NESCAC) with a .578 save percentage.
