MIDDLEBURY DROPS FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

MIDDLEBURY, Vermont - Williams handed Middlebury its first loss of the season as the Ephs picked up a 2-0 win over the Panthers in NESCAC soccer action on Saturday.

Williams took a 1-0 lead early as Dana Leary found Dan MacGregor with a cross pass before he buried it for the tally. Middlebury thought they had tied the game on a header from J.B. Gerber at 11:11, but the goal was waved off due to a foul. The Panthers continued to keep up the pressure but could not find the equalizer in the first half.

Middlebury continued to come at Williams with some great scoring opportunities in the second half, but could not solve Eph netminder Nick Armington. Josh Bolton headed in a cross from MacGregor at the 65:34 mark to give Williams a 2-0 lead. A few late efforts were dodged by Williams as the Panthers outshot the Ephs 28-9, but came up short, 2-0.
