Men's Soccer Headed To Williams For NESCAC Tourney

11/2/04 - The Middlebury College men's soccer team will make its fifth consecutive appearance in the NESCAC semifinals this weekend at Williams. The Panthers will take on Bowdoin in one semifinal, while Williams meets Wesleyan in the other contest. The winners will meet at noon on Sunday for the NESCAC title and an automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.

The Panthers enter the weekend ranked second in <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />New England and 16th nationally. Middlebury ranks second in the NESCAC with 2.40 goals/game, while ranking third with 0.84 goals allowed/contest. Leading the team in scoring are John Rusten and David LaRocca. Rusten has been steady all season long with nine goals and three assists for 21 points. He ranks third in the league in points and goals/game. LaRocca has been on a tear, earning NESCAC Player of the Week honors with five goals and two assists in a pair of games last weekend. He now has eight goals and two assists for 18 points on the year. Kellan Florio (5-4-14) and J.B. Gerber (5-1-11) round out the team's leading scorers. In goal, Craig Hirsh has a 1.12 GAA in 881 minutes, while David Lindholm sports a 0.25 GAA in 361 minutes.
