October 21, 2004
10/21/04 - Middlebury improved to 31-6-1 all-time against St. Michael's as the Panthers beat the Purple Knights, 2-0. Middlebury is ranked third in the latest New England poll and 22nd nationally.
John Rusten opened the scoring for Middlebury as he took a crossing pass from Simon Perkins and beat Patrick Melvin with a low hard shot to the right side. The Panthers made it a 2-0 game just 4:09 into the second half as Alex Elias created some space and deked the goalkeeper before flipping a shot over his head from 15 yards away. That would be the game's finally tally as David Lindholm preserved his third shutout of the season as he came out to make a big save on Glenn Sherman with 20 minutes left to play. He ended the game with four saves, while Melvin made five saves for the Purple Knights.
