October 7, 2006

Amherst picked up a big NESCAC win as they earned a 3-1 victory over Middlebury on Dragone Field. The Panthers return to action when the host Norwich on Wednesday, while Amherst plays at WNEC on Wednesday.

Amherst jumped out to the lead just four minutes in as Mike Wohl converted a centering pass from Nick Lynch in traffic. The Jeffs took a 2-0 lead at 18:47 as Rob Madden's throw-in went right to Jake Duker, who finished. Middlebury cut the lead in half at 32:49 as David Lee's corner kick was blasted into the back of the net by Andrew Germansky.

Middlebury thought they had some momentum at the 73:18 mark as Zack Toth made a huge save on a penalty kick. It was ruled that Toth left the line too early, allowing Duker to convert on his second chance for the 3-1 lead. Just three minutes later, the Panthers had a penalty kick of their own, but Mohamed Zeidan made the save for the Jeffs.

Toth ended the game with five saves for Middlebury, while Zeidan made two stops in the second half for Amherst.
