Men's Soccer Tops Williams 1-0
October 13, 2007
In another tightly-contested Middlebury vs. Williams men's soccer game, the Panthers came away with a 1-0 victory in Vermont. Baer Fisher scored at 82:29 as he took a drop pass from Casey Ftorek, who had carried the ball down the left win. Fisher blasted a ball into the upper right corner, just inside the post, for the game's only goal. The Panthers return to action on Sunday when the host Plymouth State at 3:00.
Middlebury goalkeeper Brian Bush was injured early in the game, as Jamie Wheeler took over at the 2:24 mark. Wheeler would end the day with four saves in goal, while his counterpart, Andrew Graham, made six stops for the Ephs.
Williams had a nice chance in the 14th minute as Kit Fuderich's shot was saved, before a shot from Mike Darling was cleared off the goal line. The Panthers tried to get on the board early in the second half as a header from Ftorek on a Brandon Jackson cross, just sailed over the crossbar.
Jackson just missed a goal on a restart in the 60th minute, while Daniel Curbelo-Zeidman nearly scored a header minutes later at the other end.
Each team would have a few more quality opportunities, but their defenses held up as the Panthers earned the 1-0 win.
