Make It Five Straight
September 25, 2007
Middlebury picked up its fifth consecutive shutout in as many games to start the season, as they earned a 5-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer. The feat matches the '03 squad, who also opened the season with five straight blankings.
Middlebury had a chance early as Casey Ftorek was hauled down in the penalty area. He ripped a shot to the bottom right corner on a penalty kick, but Chris Feltes made a diving save for Colby-Sawyer to keep the Panthers off the board.
Middlebury broke through minutes later as Baer Fisher scored with a diving header after a great crossing pass from Nathaan Demers. The Panthers then struck twice in 1:01 to take a 3-0 lead later in the half. Stephen Hart made a short crossing pass to Taylor Wilkins, who finished the first goal, while Hart scored one of his own as he slipped a shot past Feltes after carrying the ball in from the right side.
Demers set up Ftorek for the Panthers' fourth goal in the second half, as Ftorek beat the keeper before firing into an open net. Andrew Banadda capped the scoring as he took a feed from Fisher and found the back of the net.
Brian Bush made four saves in 67 minutes, while Jamie Wheeler was forced to make no saves in 23 minutes as they combined for the shutout. Chris Feltes made seven stops in 65 minutes of action, while Will Berry earned three saves in 25 minutes.
