Men's Soccer Opens New Field With Shutout Of Conn.
September 8, 2007
Middlebury picked up a 2-0 win over Connecticut College in the season-opener for both teams. The game was played in front of a crowd of over 500 people on the Panthers' new Field Turf surface.
The game was scoreless until the 19:15 mark when Brandon Jackson sent a ball ahead to David LaRocca. Conn. College keeper Ted Lane and LaRocca arrived at the ball at the same time, as it squirted away into open space. LaRocca recovered and sent the ball into the open net for a 1-0 lead.
Jackson doubled the lead at 57:04 of the second half, with an impressive chip from 19 yards on a restart. Jackson lofted the ball over the wall and into the top left corner of the net to give Middlebury some breathing room.
The Camels would threaten late, but Brian Bush would be equal to the task, making three saves in the goal for the shutout. Lane ended the day with six stops.
