Men's Soccer Tops Carleton To Advance To Sectional Final
November 22, 2008
Middlebury advanced to the NCAA Sectional Finals (quarterfinals) with a 1-0 win over Carleton at Stevens Institute in Hoboken, N.J. The Panthers will meet the host school on Sunday at 6:00 p.m., after Stevens beat Johns Hopkins 2-1 in penalty kicks after a scoreless tie.
Along with last year's five NCAA Tournament shutouts, the Panthers have not allowed a goal in their last eight NCAA Tournament games, a span of 780 minutes. The team's last NCAA tourney goal allowed was in a 2-1 loss to St. Lawrence back in '06.
Rookie Tyler Macnee recorded his 13th goal of the season at the 82-minute mark as it proved to be the game-winner for Middlebury. Baer Fisher earned the assist on the goal, with a centering pass to Macnee for the tally. The assist was the 22nd of his career, tying the Middlebury record.
Carleton could not get a shot off in over 85 minutes of play, as the Knights were held to just one on the night. Brian Bush earned the shutout for the Panthers, his 12th of the season and 26th of his career.
