Men's Soccer Blanks Amherst

Middlebury improved to 12-0 overall on its Field Turf surface as the Panthers opened up NESCAC play with a 1-0 shutout victory over Amherst. Middlebury moves to 2-0 on the season, while Amherst falls to 1-1.

The game's lone goal came just 7:47 in as Baer Fisher served up a beautiful pass to Harrison Watkins on a restart. Watkins got a head on the ball cutting to the goal and beat Lennard Kovacs to put the Panthers up 1-0.

The game featured few offensive opportunities, with Middlebury having a few second half chances. Allen Bourdon ripped a shot off the post in the 53rd minute, before Carson Cornbrooks' shot sailed just wide from 12 yards away in the 84th minute. The Panthers best chance to score came in the 86th minute as Tyler Macnee found Stephen Hart for a wide-open net, but the goal was denied by a brilliant save by Amherst back Grayson Holland.

Brian Bush ended the game with five saves to earn the shutout, while Kovacs made a pair of stops for the Jeffs.
