Men's Soccer Tops Castleton

Middlebury got back on the winning track with a 1-0 victory at home over Castleton State. The game is one of three home games this week for the Panthers, as they host Connecticut College on Saturday and Wesleyan on Sunday. Middlebury moves to 5-3-2 with the victory, while Castleton falls to 7-6-2.
Middlebury controlled play throughout, owning a 27-3 shots advantage in the game. The Panthers were only able to muster up one goal, that coming with just over 10 minutes left to play in the game. Jake Edwards served a ball from 25 yards out on the right side on a restart. The shot was slightly deflected by Castleton keeper Mike Anthony before it hit the far post and came to the feet of Micah Wood, who quickly hit the open net at 79:32.
The Panthers had some opportunities in the first half, but none as solid as a chance in the 55th minute of play. Robbie Redmond blasted a shot from 25 yards out on a restart, that hit the crossbar. Anthony made a save on Middlebury's Adam Batista in the 70th minute, as he had gained some space from close range. Castleton's best chance to score came in the 75th minute on a hard shot from the left side by Sean Fitzgerald, but Panther keeper Tim Cahill was equal to the task. The Panther goalie ended the day with three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season, while Anthony stopped 10 shots.
