Men's Soccer Wins At Castleton
October 13, 2010
Graham Knisley and junior Robbie Redmond both notched their first goals of the season as Middlebury defeated Castleton, 2-0, in non-conference men's soccer action at Spartan Stadium on Wednesday night. The Panthers improve to 9-1 overall with their ninth shutout, while the Spartans fall to 9-5 on the season.
Knisley opened up the scoring just seven minutes and 21 seconds into the contest corralling Jake Edwards' corner kick and placing it just under the crossbar past Castleton goaltender Andy LaCroix for a 1-0 lead.
Redmond made it 2-0 at 14:51 of the first half thanks to stellar passing from teammates Tyler Macnee and Alex Colucci.
Macnee started the play by finding Colucci at the right flank with a through ball. Colucci gained possession of the ball and delivered a perfectly placed pass to Redmond just outside of the top of the box. Redmond planted and slipped a shot behind LaCroix to double Middlebury's advantage.
In the 21st minute, Spartans' defender Jacob Roswell kept the score at 2-0 denying Knisley of his second goal on the night clearing a shot that Knisley placed just inside the far post.
Josh Costa had Castleton's best scoring chance inside the 48th minute with an one-on-one opportunity against Panther goaltender Tim Cahill. After receiving a lofted pass from Roswell, Costa ripped a shot just over the crossbar and the reach of Cahill keeping the score at 2-0.
LaCroix finished with four saves in the loss, while Cahill turned away all three shots that came his way in the shutout.
