Men's Soccer With 10th Shutout

Otis Pitney scored the game's only goal on a pass from Tyler Smith to lift the 13th ranked Middlebury College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against Connecticut College in front of 1500 fans on Tempel Green Saturday. Junior goalkeeper Tim Cahill made three saves en route to his eighth shutout of the season. Casey Marini stopped three shots in the setback for the Camels. The Panthers improve to 10-1 with a 5-1 record in the NESCAC while the Camels slip to 4-5-1 with a 1-4-1 record in league play.
Pitney and Smith converted in a 2-on-1 situation versus the keeper to put the visitors on top 3:41 in the second half. Sophomore Graham Christensen nearly scored the equalizer with 39:30 remaining but Cahill was able to make a stop on the shot from close range.
The Camels held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks in the contest and had their best opportunity to tie the game in the 69th minute of play. Nick Maghenzani made a nifty move to spring free on the right side and fired a cross into the middle of the box. Trevor Prophet got a head on it for what appeared to be a game-tying goal., but Cahill made a brilliant game-saving stab to preserve the one-goal lead for the visitors.
The Panthers earn their 10th win of the season, all via shutout - as they outshot their opponents, 8-7.
