Men's Soccer Wins At Castleton
October 2, 2012
Middlebury broke open a scoreless game with three goals in the final minutes on its way to a 3-0 victory over Castleton. The win breaks a three-game skid for the Panthers (4-4) as they prepare to host Hamilton on Saturday. The Spartans fall to 8-3 on the year and return to action Saturday against UMaine-Farmington.
After outshooting Castleton 16-3 in the first half and 30-10 in the game, Middlebury finally got on the board in the 79th minute on an own goal. The ball was bouncing around in the box before it went off a defender and bounced back over Koenemann’s head into the net.
The Panthers made it 2-0 in the 86th minute as the ball deflected out to Sam Peisch at the near corner of the 18 and he took one dribble before blasting it past Koenemann.
With just 39 seconds remaining, Middlebury pushed its lead to 3-0. An attempted shot from outside the 18 hit the cross bar and came out to Ben Tabah, who ripped the ball into the back of the net.
Zach Abdu-Glass finished the game with four saves for Middlebury, while Nate Koenemann made nine stops for Castleton.
