Men's Tennis Returns To NCAA Title Match

5/19/05 - Middlebury will make its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship after defeating Gustvaus Adolphus 4-2 in an NCAA semifinal contest UC-Santa Cruz. The defending NCAA Champions will take on the winner of the Emory/UC-Santa Cruz match played late Thursday, in the title match at 4:00 p.m. eastern time on Friday.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Gustavus jumped out to a 1-0 lead after capturing two of three doubles matches. In singles play, Salih Unsal and Ari Beilin gave Middlebury a 2-1 lead with a pair of straight-set victories. Alex Scott fell in the #6 slot, to leave the match tied at two. Nate Edmunds earned a 6-4, 6-3 win, while George Mayer finished up his opponent (7-5, 6-1) moments later, to clinch the victory.

Final Score: Middlebury 4, Gustavus Adolphus 2
