Men's Tennis To Defend NCAA Title

5/11/05 - The Middlebury College men's tennis team is set to defend its NCAA Championship when they travel to the west coast to take part in the 2005 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships at UC-Santa Cruz. The Panthers will take on Mary Washington in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, May 18th at noon eastern time.
Middlebury earned its way into the quarterfinals after a 4-0 win over <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Amherst in the NCAA Regional Final in Middlebury. The Panthers enter the tournament with a 15-2 overall record and an 8-3 record in NCAA play over the past four seasons.
Middlebury's line-up for the championship weekend is expected to be: #1 Brian Waldron, #2 Ari Beilin, #3 Nate Edmunds, #4 George Mayer, #5 Salih Unsal and #6 Alex Scott. In doubles play, Mayer and Justin Ingoglia are in the #1 slot, Scott/Beilin are #2, while Waldron/Edmunds play at #3.
In individual competition, Beilin and Waldron have both qualified, while Mayer/Ingoglia will take part in the doubles action. Those brackets begin to play out May 21st through May 23rd.
