Men's Tennis Competes at Bates

10/10/04 - The Panther men's tennis team returned to the scene of its NCAA Championship last spring when they took part in the Bates Invitational.

First-year player Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) turned in a great singles performance as he advanced to the finals of the "B" singles bracket before falling 7-6, 6-1. Marinkovic had won four matches previously to earn a spot in the finals.

Junior Matt Rales (<?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Potomac, Md.) and first-year player Salih Unsal (Gerrards Crossing, England) both advanced to the quarterfinal round of their respective brackets.

In doubles action, junior Jeff Oldenburg (Jacksonville, Fla.) and senior Alex Meditz (Arlington, Va.) won three matches before falling 8-4 in the championship match of the "A" singles bracket.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
