Middlebury With Big Wins Over Spring Break

The Middlebury College men's tennis team won six of seven matches played in California over the break, including three wins over teams ranked in the top 10. The second-ranked Panthers defeated Cal. Poly-Pomona 8-1, picked up a win over Chapman 7-0, before falling to Claremont-McKenna 4-3. Middlebury then came back to pick up big wins over #10 Pacific Lutheran 7-0, #6 Trinity of Texas 7-0 and defending NCAA champion and top ranked UC-Santa Cruz, 4-3.

First-year player Conrad Olson (Waterloo, Belgium) earned a perfect 6-0 mark on the trip, while senior Ari Beilin (Hamilton, Mass.) went 5-0. Junior George Mayer (Merion, Pa.) posted a 5-1 record, while senior Nate Edmunds (Birmingham, Mich.) and junior Alex Scott (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) each went 4-1. Junior Kevin Bergesen (Beverly, Mass.) posted a 3-0 record, senior Jeff Oldenburg (Jacksonville, Fla.) and sophomore Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) were both 2-0, while seniors Brian Waldron (Rye, N.Y.) sported a 3-2 mark. Senior Matt Rales (Potomac, Md.) went 1-1 on the trip.

In doubles action, Beilin/Scott went 4-1, as did Edmunds and junior Kevin Bergesen (Beverly, Mass.). Bergesen/Mayer and Oldenburg/Marinkovic each went 2-0 on the week.
