Panthers Win Singles/Doubles At ITA Regional

The Middlebury College men's tennis team turned in an amazing performance at the 2006 ITA New England Championships hosted by Williams. The Panthers had three of four players in the singles semifinals as well as both doubles teams in the title match.

Senior Alex Scott (Mt. Kisco) went 6-0 at the tourney, en route to the singles title. With the win, he earns an automatic bid to the 2006 ITA National Small College Championships in Florida later this month. Scott was a straight-sets winner in every match, including a 6-1, 6-1 win over his opponent in the finals. Sophomore Conrad Olson (Waterloo, Belgium) advanced to the semifinals with four straight-set wins, before falling to Scott 6-4, 6-3. On the other side of the bracket, first-year player Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) won four matches before being eliminated in the semifinal round. Junior Filip Marinkovic (Toronto, Ont.) battled his way to the quarterfinals, winning three three-set matches before falling to Scott.

In doubles play, Scott and senior George Mayer (Merion, Pa.) won the championship, with an 8-2 win over their teammates, Olson/Marinkovic. The winning duo have also qualified for the 2006 ITA National Small College Championships in Florida later this month.
