Men's Tennis To Host NCAA Regional

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team will make its 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament when they host a Regional from May 10-12. The Panthers will take on the winner of the Drew/Farmingdale State match on Saturday, May 11th at 2:00 p.m., while Johns Hopkins battles the Vassar/Marywood winner at 10:00 a.m. The winners will take part in the regional final at noon on Sunday.

Middlebury enters the weekend with an 18-4 overall record. The Panthers won the ’04 NCAA title, earning its second national crown in ’10 with a 5-1 win over Amherst in the title match. Middlebury has advanced to the final four in seven of the past 10 seasons, earning its first NCAA Tournament bid in ’01-’02. The Panthers boast a 30-11 record in NCAA Tournament play and are ranked 11th in the latest ITA National poll.

Middlebury has faced eight opponents in the top 20 this season, with five top-10 matches. The Panthers started their season 11-0 before falling 8-1 to top-ranked Claremont on March 28th. Middlebury dropped three of its final six matches of the season, with the setbacks coming to #3 Amherst and twice to #6 Williams, including the NESCAC semifinals a week ago.
