Brush Bike Ride Raises Over 56K!

September 20, 2006

On Saturday, September 16, 2006 the Middlebury Ski Team rode in the first annual Kelly Brush Century Bike Ride. The bike ride was a benefit organized by the Middlebury College Alpine Ski Team to raise funds for teammate Kelly Brush who was paralyzed from the waist down in a ski racing accident this past February.

The Ski Team raised a total of $56,654.99 thanks to the overwhelming amount of donations from family, friends, and the Middlebury community. With these funds raised Kelly will not only re-learn how to sit-ski this winter with her own new monoski but she will also purchase additional adaptive equipment.

The bike ride consisted of a grueling 100 mile bike loop through Addison County, attempted by each member of the Middlebury Ski Team. Kelly also participated in the ride, completing over 8 miles on her handcycle- her longest ride to date. A barbeque was held after the ride where raffle winners received great prizes donated by Middlebury College Snow Bowl, Rossignol, Peak Performance Ski Shop, Trek, Spyder, Swix, and Oakley.

A successful event this year, the Middlebury Ski Team looks forward to continuing the event next year and possibly opening it up to more participants.
