Middlebury College has named Abigail Copeland its new assistant alpine skiing coach. The '06 graduate of St. Lawrence University joins the staff after working as an assistant at her alma mater.

While working at St. Lawrence, Copeland performed numerous responsibilities, including budget management, working with admissions, organizing team practices and mentoring student-athletes and their academic commitments.

Middlebury College skiers Andrew Wagner (Traverse City, Mich.) and Simeon Hamilton (Aspen, Colo.) both capped their impressive careers with All-American honors once again this season. The duo accomplished the feat based on their impressive performances at the recent NCAA Championships hosted by Bates College in Maine.

The Middlebury ski team finished eighth overall at the 2009 NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by Bates College. Denver won the NCAA crown with 659 points, followed by Colorado (602.5) and New Mexico (602). Vermont (573) led the eastern schools in fifth place, while Dartmouth was seventh (555), followed by the Panthers (426).

Middlebury slipped to ninth place after three days of competition at the NCAA Championships hosted by Bates College. The Panthers are second among eastern schools, while UVM (484), Denver (482) and New Mexico (481) round out the top three.

March 12, 2009

The first day of action is complete at the NCAA's, with both alpine and nordic events taking place after yesterday's postponements. Middlebury finds itself in eighth place overall, third among eastern teams. Denver (330) leads the event, followed by Vermont (327) and Utah (317.5).

March 11, 2009

BETHEL, Maine -- Due to harsh weather conditions, the men's and women's giant slalom competition at the NCAA Skiing Championships has been canceled for Wednesday and has been rescheduled for the same time Thursday (women start at 9 a.m., men at 12:30 p.m.)

Thursday's Nordic events will go on as originally scheduled: the men's 10K Classical race starts at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K Classical race at 12 p.m.

The Middlebury Nordic ski team will head to Maine for the NCAA Championships, hosted by Bates College. Before they leave, they're likely to stop at the dining hall, but not necessarily for food. This stop is to pump 40 gallons of leftover fryer oil into their team truck.

Bates College will be the host of the 56th NCAA Men's and Women's Skiing Championships March 11-14, 2009. Alpine events will take place at Sunday River, while the Nordic races will be held at Black Mountain. Middlebury will send five alpine and four nordic skiers to compete at the event. Seniors Andrew Wagner and Mattie Ford will represent the alpine team, along with sophomores Bobby Poehling, Tasha Woodworth and Nicole Dvorak. Seniors Simeon Hamilton and Robyn Anderson, along with sophomore Patrick Johnson and rookie Elise Moody-Roberts will compete on the nordic side.

The Middlebury College ski team finished third in the final carnival of the season at Colby. Dartmouth (961.5) won the event, followed by UVM (793), Middlebury (732.5) and UNH (705). Action resumes for the Panthers at the NCAA Championships, which take place March 11-14 at Bates.

February 21, 2009

The 86th Middlebury College winter carnival is complete, with the Panthers earning a third place finish with 834 points. Dartmouth won the carnival with 881.5 points, followed by UVM (866), Middlebury and UNH (697.5).

February 14, 2009

The Middlebury College ski team turned in its best performance of the year as the Panthers placed second overall at the Dartmouth Carnival. The host school won the events with 921 points, followed by Middlebury (842), UVM (779) and UNH (713.5). A key to the success at Dartmouth was a healthy and complete nordic men's team for the first time this season.

Middlebury earned its third straight fourth place finish in carnival action, as the Panthers earned 717.5 points at the University of Vermont carnival. Dartmouth (919) won the event, followed by UVM (798.5), UNH (735.5) and Middlebury.

Former Middlebury College skier Kelly Brush has been named the winner of the prestigious 2009 NCAA Inspiration Award recipient. Brush will receive the award during the Honors and Delegates Celebration January 15 at the 2009 Convention in Washington, D.C.

The Middlebury ski teams earned a fourth place finish this weekend at the University of New Hampshire Carnival. Dartmouth won the event (901), followed by UNH (834), UVM (750) and Middlebury (674.5).

January 30, 2009

Middlebury College nordic skier Simi Hamilton recently competed at the Under-23 World Championships in Praz de Lys Sommand, France. The Middlebury senior was the third American to finish the race, placing 28th overall. The finish automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Championships this March in Maine. A few days later, Hamilton was the top American finisher in the sprint race, placing 17th overall.

The Middlebury nordic and alpine ski teams opened up their carnival circuit this weekend with a trip to Maine for the Bates Carnival. The Panthers finished fourth overall (689), with Dartmouth (902) winning, followed by UVM (845) and UNH (735). The women's GS team and the men's slalom squad each won their respective races.
