Ski Team Fourth At EISA Championships

The Middlebury College ski team finished fourth overall at the EISA Championships, hosted by Bates. Vermont came back to win the carnival with 939 points, followed by Dartmouth (908), UNH (690) and Middlebury (689). David Donaldson made five wins in six attempts in the giant slalom, picking up a victory on day one. Hig Roberts took home a title on day two, finishing with a time of 1:58.46 to take the slalom.
Donaldson completed the GS course in 2:32.93, a sizable 1.25 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. Middlebury boasted two more top 10 finishes in the event, with Roberts coming in seventh (2:35.72) and Andrew McNealus placing 10th (2:26.13). Liam Mulhern finished the slalom in 17th (2:02.18), followed by McNealus in 37th (2:13.07).
Mary Sackbauer paced the women with a seventh place finish, covering the course in 2:41.25. Kara Shaw was next for the Panthers in 18thplace (2:42.82), followed by Yina Moe-Lange in 24th (2:43.79). Sackbauer was again the team-leader the following day, placing seventh in 2:03.24 in the slalom event. Katelyn Barclay came in 22nd (2:06.41) in the event, followed by Mackenzie Brown in 28th (2:09.75).
Annie Pokorny led the Panther women on the nordic side, placing second in the 5K classic with a time of 15:05, 1.7 seconds off the winning pace. The Panthers then placed three racers in spots 15-17 in the event. Heather Mooney (16:10) and Hilary Rich (16:17) were Middlebury's scorers, while Keely Levins placed 17th overall (16:20).
Pokorny earned a fourth place finish on day two, earning a time of 28:48 in the 10K freestyle event. Mooney finished the event in 11th place, with Kelsey Phinney coming in 16th (30:00).
Ben Lustgarten continued to pace the Middlebury men, earning a third place finish with a time of 27:27 in the 10K classic race. Austin Cobb was the next Panther racer, earning an 18th place finish with a time of 28:48. Dylan McGarthwaite rounded out the Panther scorers with a 25th place (29:02) finish.
Lustgarten was the team leader in the 15K freestyle race, placing seventh overall in 38:07. McGarthwaite ended the event in 42nd (40:58), while Cobb was 46th (41:24).
