Softball Team Sweeps Bates

4/18/04 - Middlebury swept two from Bates on Sunday, in a pair games against a NESCAC East opponent. In game one at Bates, the Panthers came from a 3-0 deficit to pick up an 11-3 win. Middlebury exploded for four runs in the third and six runs in the fourth on its way to the victory. Senior Christina Freyer (Denver, Colo.) and sophomore Lauren Battaglia (Framingham, Mass.) each had three hits in the game, with Freyer driving in two runs. Sophomore Kathryn Hurd (Fairfield, Conn.) went 2-3 with two runs and three RBI, while First-year pitcher Jennifer Williams (Scarborough, Maine) earned the win in the five-inning shortened game.

The Panthers pounded out 10 hits on their way to a 5-1 win in game two. Hurd went 3-4 with an RBI in the game, while Battaglia and junior Lauren Guza (LaCanada, Calif.) both had a pair of hits with a run scored and a RBI. Senior Lauren Bowe (Milton, Mass.) was the winner, allowing an unearned run and just three hits. (box1) (box2)
