Softball Team Sweeps Wesleyan, Lead The NESCAC

4/10/04 - Middlebury swept a pair from Wesleyan in its home openers today by scores of 3-0 and 4-2. The Panthers are now alone in the first place in the NESCAC West standings with a 5-2 record, and an 11-5 mark overall.
In game one, Michaela George had a two-run single for the Panthers in the second, while Lauren Battaglia plated George on a sacrifice fly later in the inning for the game's only runs. Megan McCarthy picked up the complete game win, allowing just three hits and striking out six batters. (box)
In the second contest, Kathryn Hurd scored on a double by George after an errant throw in the second inning. Christina Freyer later singled in George for the 2-0 lead. A two-run triple by Lauren Guza gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead after six innings. Wesleyan scratched out a pair of runs in the seventh to make it a 4-2 final. Lauren Bowe got the win in relief, tossing six innings of work. (box)
