Softball Team Heads To NESCAC Tourney - Games Can Be Seen/Heard LIVE

5/3/05 - Tufts University will host the 2005 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Softball Championship beginning Friday, May 6. The Jumbos (7-1 division, 25-6 overall) finished atop the NESCAC East Division standings ahead of runner-up Trinity College (5-3, 15-13). Williams College (7-1, 20-12) and Middlebury College (6-2, 18-8) finished first and second respectively in the NESCAC West Division to earn berths in this year's tournament. The host of the NESCAC Championship alternates between East and West Division top seeds annually. Tufts will host the double elimination tournament at Spicer Field in Medford, Massachusetts Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

Tufts will face Middlebury in the first game of the tournament on Friday. The Panthers, tournament participants each of the past two seasons, eliminated the Jumbos from the 2004 tournament 2-0. Tufts won the first three NESCAC titles between 2001-2003.

Williams, who has been the West Division's top seed each of the past four seasons, will meet Trinity in the second game on Friday. The Bantams are making their first ever NESCAC tournament appearance.Saturday's morning game will be the first elimination game of the tournament between the two first day losers followed a contest between the first day winners. The late afternoon contest on Saturday will be an elimination game between the two teams who split their first two games. Sunday's championship will feature the survivor of the final game on Saturday and the tournament's undefeated team. A second ,game on Sunday will follow that game if the team who entered the day undefeated loses the first game.

Game 5: 3:00 p.m. Winner of Game 3 vs. Loser of Game 4

Sunday, May 8

Game 6: 10:00 a.m. Winner of Game 4 vs. Winner of Game 5

Game 7: If necessary Game 7 shall be played 20 minutes after the

conclusion of Game 6 with the same two teams
