Middlebury

Softball Sweeps Castleton

April 10, 2007

Middlebury finally returned to action after some postponed games, by sweeping Castleton, 10-0 in five innings and 6-3 in the nightcap.

Jennifer Williams tossed a complete game one-hitter, and the Panthers pounded out 14 hits en route to a 10-0 mercy-rule win in game one. Middlebury jumped out to an early two run lead in the top of the first on an RBI triple by Allison Bard and an RBI single by Susan Miranowski.

The Panthers would strike for six more runs (five earned) in the third thanks again to the middle part of the order. Bard slapped a two-run single and Miranowski provided an RBI double.

Colleen Sullivan was the benefactor of Bard and Miranowski's run producing as she went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Bard finished game one with three RBI and two runs scored. Miranowski finished the day with two RBI and one run scored while Lily Hamburger and Carolyn Davis each had two hits for Middlebury.

In the nightcap Angie Carpenter pitched seven strong innings and hit a 2-run homerun to provide a spark for Castleton, but it was not enough as the hometown team fell once again. Carpenter allowed all six runs (three earned), while striking out five and walking one in the loss.

Brittany Burke went the distance for the Panthers to earn the win, striking out three and allowing three runs (two earned).

Once again Bard provided the offense for the 11-5 Panthers as she went 2 for 4 with a homerun, 2 RBI and one run scored. Carolyn Davis had two more hits, including a double and one RBI. Amelia Magistrali also drove in a pair of runs for Middlebury.
