Margel & Morris Honored By NESCAC

Middlebury College softball players Megan Margel (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Elizabeth Morris (Kenilworth, Ill.) have swept the NESCAC weekly honors. The duo helped lead Middlebury to its first NESCAC Championship with a 3-0 mark over the weekend, improving on its school-best 29-6 mark. The Panthers will make their inaugural NCAA Tournament appearance this weekend in an NCAA Regional at Ithaca.
Margel earned Player of the Week honors, after hitting .556 (5-for-9) with a pair of doubles and four runs driven in during the tourney. She drove in the winning run in game four of the tournament, a 2-0 victory over Tufts. During Sunday’s title game, Margel went 2-3 with three RBI, as both of her singles scored runs. In a 4-1 week, Margel batted .533 (8-for-15), with a .563 on-base percentage and a .733 slugging mark.
Morris came up big in the circle, earning Pitcher of the Week honors with a win and a save while recording a 0.00 ERA. She got a save in Friday’s 2-1 win over Trinity. Morris followed on Sunday during the title game, claiming the win with 4.2 innings of one-hit ball and striking out seven. She went 2-1 overall last week, striking out 12 over 8.1 IP while holding opponents to a .138 average. She also earned NEISCA Pitcher of the Week honors for New England.
