May 18, 2011

Middlebury College softball players Geena Constantin (Pelham, N.H.) and Jessica Poracky (Ramsey, N.J.) have been named to the NFCA All-Region team. The pair helped lead the Panthers to their best season in school history, earning a 30-8 record with its first NESCAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Constantin earned a spot on the second-team, while also being a second-team All-New England selection. Earlier this spring, she was named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Year. The senior finished the season with a 7-3 mark with a 1.31 ERA, including 90 strikeouts in 80 innings pitched. Her ERA placed her third in the NESCAC, while she paced the team with 17 starts in ’11.

Constantin ends her career in the top five in all of Middlebury’s all-time records. She finishes her four years with 26 wins (fourth), 27 complete games (fourth), 314 innings pitched (second), 297 strikeouts (first) and an ERA of 2.34 (third). She also holds two of the top three single-season strikeout records with 90 this season (second) and 84 in ’10 (third). She also had a solid career at the plate, hitting .343 with 14 doubles, five triples, three homers, 63 RBI and 48 runs scored in 106 games played.

Poracky was named to the third-team, having a big season at the dish for the Panthers. She ended the year with a .348 average, leading the team and NESCAC with 15 doubles, while earning a pair of triples, two homers and 24 RBI. Her 15 doubles were a new Middlebury single-season record and tie her for the school mark of 22 after just two seasons. The sophomore hit in 26 of 35 games this season, including a 10-game streak to open the year.
