Softball Wins At Skidmore

May 1, 2012

Middlebury played its final regular season game prior to the NESCAC Tournament, earning an 8-3 win at Skidmore on Thoroughbred Field. Skidmore ends their season at 13-24, while the Panthers improve to 20-13.

Middlebury grabbed an early 2-0 lead after back-to-back RBI singles from Emily Kraytenberg and Jessica  Poracky in the first. They made it 3-0 in the fifth on Kimber Sable’s run-scoring single.

Skidmore broke through in the sixth as Katie Sorchka blasted a two-run shot to center, her team-leading fourth homerun of the season, to cut the lead to 3-2.  The Panthers answered right back as they scored five runs on six hits in the top of the seventh, highlighted by Kraytenberg’s two-run double, to push the lead to 8-2.

Julia Martin led off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun to left center, the first of her collegiate career, but that’s as close as the Thoroughbreds would get as Middlebury earned the 8-3 win.

Sam Crose (9-11) took the loss, allowing three runs on three hits over 4.1 innings, while Abby Fuhrman allowed five runs over the final 2.2 innings in relief.

Alexa Lesenskyj (8-7) earned the win, allowing one run over the first three innings and just the Martin homerun over the final 1.2 innings. Marcela Olvera allowed two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of relief.

Poracky finished 3-4 with two RBI and one run scored, while Kraytenberg was 2-4 with  three RBI and two runs scored. Hannah Marks finished 2-4 with a run scored.
