Swimming & Diving At Middlebury

THE SEASON
The team traditionally carries approximately 60 male and female swimmers and divers who compete in 10 regular season dual meets, and several post-season championships. Practice begins November 1st and is held daily, unless there is an academic conflict. Athletes are generally in the water for two hours each afternoon; combined with a half hour of dry land activities prior to the pool session. Optional morning workouts are offered two days per week in addition to a weight-lifting program. Individual meetings are scheduled in October to discuss season goals and expectations. A training schedule is established based on each athlete's needs and background. For the swimmer or diver looking for a challenging academic experience combined with a nationally recognized program, Middlebury is an excellent choice

THE NATATORIUM
For the seventh season the Panthers will dive into a state-of-the-art 50-meter X 25-yard Olympic-size swimming pool. The pool has 18 short course lanes; 10 with Colorado System V Timing capabilities, non-skid touch pads, and a 10-lane readout scoreboard. The facility is also equipped with two one-meter diving boards and two three-meter diving boards. The spectator area holds approximately 1200 individuals and allows seating along two sides of the facility. During the day, the strategically placed windows boast spectacular views of the surrounding Green Mountains. In 1999, the college finished construction on the new Kenyon Ice Arena which includes a connecting entrance and lobby-area that overlooks the rink on one side and the Natatorium on the other, as well as provide students and spectators with a lounge and a concessions area.
